Why wouldn't I want to start the plan?

I got a call from a woman today who is considering doing my diet.

She asked a great question: What reasons would you give me for not doing this diet?

I told her that the only reason I could think of was this: Any issues that you're burying with food will come bubbling to the surface.

Once you get control of your eating you suddenly are much more aware of other things that are bothering you.

I assured her that it doesn't happen in a paralyzing way -- at least it didn't for me -- but it nonetheless is something that's good to be aware of.

Vertigo: My vertigo is back, which kept me from running. I did walk with Paul.

Completely irresponsible food purchase: Goji berries

OK, in addition to not eating sugar, wheat and flour, I attempt to eat in all the cool Michael Pollan ways: local, organic (if possible), relatively low on the food chain, etc., etc. I'm not saying I always do -- but it's a goal.

I threw my food politics out the window today when I saw frozen Goji berries. From the Himalayas. Food can't come from any greater distance.

My excuse: I've been wanting to try the alleged Superfood. I'd had dried ones, but fresh(er) foods are so much different.

The verdict: The smoothie was tasty enough, but the fruits are sour. If I made another one, I'd temper it with some banana, as I do with strawberries and raspberries. I added some cinnamon after my initial taste, and that seems to bring out the sweetness in the fruits.

Driving marathon

We drove 820 miles yesterday to make it home. It took 14 hours, but we made it. That's one advantage of the kids being older -- they can handle a long drive like that because they want to get home as well. My back is a bit tense from the driving, but it's great to be back.
